BERLIN - Franz Beckenbauer Cheap Nike Air Max 90 Black , who headed Germany's 2006 World Cup organising committee, said on Monday a transfer of 6.7 million euros to world soccer's governing body FIFA in 2005 was a mistake but rejected claims it was a return of a loan to buy votes in favour of the country's World Cup bid.

In a brief statement sent to media, the former World Cup-winning player and coach Cheap Nike Air Max Black , who is a key figure in an affair involving an alleged slush fund used to bribe FIFA voting members back in 2000 to award the tournament to Germany, again said the Germans never bought votes.

"In order to get a subsidy from FIFA (for the organisation of the 2006 World Cup) those involved went ahead with a proposal from the FIFA finance commission that in today's eyes should have been rejected. I, as President of the then organising committee bear the responsibility of this mistake."

But he said any claims of a votes-for-cash deal were not true.

"There were no votes bought in order to get the nod for the 2006 World Cup Cheap Air Max 2018 Black ," Beckenbauer, 70, said.

Der Spiegel magazine had reported an alleged slush fund of 6.7 million euros was used to buy votes for Germany. The money had been provided by then Adidas CEO Robert Louis-Dreyfus Cheap Air Max 90 Black , the magazine said.

The German Football Association (DFB) has rejected the claims as groundless but has said it was investigating a payment of the same amount from the organising committee to FIFA in 2005.

Der Spiegel claims the 2005 payment to FIFA was repaying Louis-Dreyfus for his loan five years earlier through the soccer body. Niersbach's predecessor Theo Zwanziger has also said there was an alleged slush fund.

ATHENS, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Greek lawmakers approved on Saturday the 2017 budget which includes a new round of painful austerity measures in order to meet bailout goals to exit the seven-year-long debt crisis.

The budget passed with the support of 152 deputies of the two-partite ruling coalition, while 146 lawmakers of the opposition parties voted against.

The 2017 Greek state budget projects 2.7 percent growth, a 2 percent primary surplus and 2.6 billion euros (2.74 billion U.S. dollars) in new tax hikes which will be applied as of January 1, 2017 to fuel, tobacco products, coffee, telecommunications and other services.

Additionally it provides for further cuts on salaries and pensions.

Austerity policies implemented since 2010 under the bailout programs have shrank by about 40 percent the average income of Greek households, according to official statistics.

Addressing the 300-member string assembly during the debate shortly before the vote, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras acknowledged the difficulties.

The Greek leader appeared confident that Greece was on the final stretch of a tough marathon race to reach economic recovery.

He said that 2017 will be a milestone for the debt-ridden country's exit from the crisis and the 2017 state budget was a budget of optimism and growth.

The ailing economy stabilized in 2016 and returned to growth. Unemployment was reduced from 27 percent to 23 percent and will further drop.

The Greek government will support the most vulnerable social groups as fiscal indexes are improving, Tsipras said.

The leader of the conservative main opposition New Democracy party Kyriakos Mitsotakis criticized the government that the new wave of austerity undermines the competitiveness of Greek companies and social cohesion and the targets were not feasible.

Labor unions representing the majority of public servants and private sector employees who held a 24-hour strike on Thursday ahead of the vote in parliament, have warned with a new round of protests and strikes.
